Flipkart announced that it had added four fulfilment and sortation centres in Maharashtra to raise demand and promote local sellers. Flipkart’s new facilities in the state are designated in Bhiwandi and Nagpur. The facilities are almost 7 lakh square feet, which will create over 4,000 direct and indirect jobs, Flipkart said. The expansion comes after raising customer demand and seller base. Flipkart’s seller count in Maharashtra had grown 30 per cent in the last year.
Maharashtra’s industries minister, Subhash Desai, said, “Maharashtra is one of the biggest investment hubs in the country, and Flipkart’s investments are most welcome in the state. Flipkart has played an important role in keeping people indoors in the pandemic while getting their essential requirements, and I am happy to see continuous investments from Flipkart that are helping to create job opportunities and support for the sellers, MSMEs and artisan ecosystem.”
