Google said it would not post ads related to misinformation about climate change on its search engine or the video-sharing platform YouTube. The new policy for Google advertisers and YouTube creators will prevent the media from making money from content that “differs well-established scientific research about the existence and causes of climate change.”
This will include online content referring to climate change as a scam or refusing the world’s temperature is increasing and that human activity is the reason for the problem, Google announced in a post.
“Google’s decision to remove climate misinformation can turn the tide on the climate disclaimer economy,” said NGO Avaaz campaign director Fadi Quran. “For years, climate misinformers have misled public and prevented urgent actions on climate change,” Quran added.
