India May Oppose IMF’s $2 Billion Aid Package to Pakistan

India's expected vote against the aid package comes amid ongoing ceasefire violations.

India is expected to oppose the IMF’s $2 billion aid package to Pakistan during the Executive Board meeting on 9th May, 2025, amid rising tensions.

The move follows the Pahalgam terror attack, which took 26 lives, and Operation Sindoor, where India struck nine terror sites in Pakistan and PoK on 7th May.

The IMF announced a staff-level agreement on 25th March under a 28-month RSF, granting $1.3 billion to Pakistan.

The IMF board will also conduct the first review of Pakistan’s ongoing 37-month EFF, which could unlock an additional $1 billion.

If both disbursements are cleared, Pakistan could receive $2 billion in aid. India’s expected vote against the aid package comes amid ongoing ceasefire violations along the LoC and recent escalations in cross-border tensions.
