Mumbai Metro One Launches ‘E-Tickets on WhatsApp’

Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL), which operates metro services on the city’s Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar route, launched a “WhatsApp e-ticket” facility on Thursday. Mumbai Metro One is the world’s first MRTS (Mass Rapid Transit System) to offer e-tickets on WhatsApp, it claimed in a press release.

This is an extension of paper QR code tickets currently offered through ticket counters. To use the facility, passengers need to message ‘Hi’ to 9670008889. Share OTP at the ticket office. A QR code with fare and destination details will be sent to WhatsApp. Scan and travel at any automated ticket gate.

Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar has been operating since 2014 and is Mumbai’s first metro line. The daily ridership of Mumbai Metro One is 2,60,000. MMOPL also claims that it employs several technological innovations such as bank combo cards, mobile QR code tickets, and loyalty programs.
