Syria will form a new government on 1st March, aiming to represent its diverse population, Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani announced.

Islamist-led rebels installed an interim government under Mohammad al-Bashir after seizing power, set to govern until 1st March.

Ahmed al-Sharaa, leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), was appointed interim president and tasked with forming a transitional legislature.

The Assad-era parliament and Baath party have been dissolved, with HTS and other factions disbanded to integrate fighters into a national force.

Sharaa stated that organising elections could take up to five years under the new administration.

Authorities have pledged a national dialogue conference for all Syrians but have not set a date.
