US President Biden to Virtually Meet PM Modi Today

US President Joe Biden will virtually meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 11 to discuss matters on ending the Covid-19 pandemic, countering the climate crisis, boosting the global economy, and maintaining a free, open, rules-based international order to strengthen security, democracy, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.

Both the leaders will advance ongoing discussions about developing an Indo-Pacific Economic Framework and providing high-quality infrastructure. President Biden will also continue talks on the outcomes of Russia’s war against Ukraine and reducing its impact on global food supply and commodity markets.

The virtual meeting precedes the US-India 2+2 Ministerial between Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. The 2+2 Ministerial is the first meeting between the two countries under the Biden Government.

There has been some concern in Washington over India’s position on the Ukraine crisis and its decision to buy discounted Russian oil. Claiming that India is strongly against the Russia-Ukraine war, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had said that if New Delhi has chosen aside, it will be of peace and an immediate end to violence.
