Aviation regulator DGCA learned about the heavy increase in prices of flights between India and the UK and has ordered the airlines to give details about the airfares they are charging. And the data submitted shows one-way economy class fares of Delhi-London nonstops ranging from Rs 1,03,191 to Rs 1,47,544 in the four airlines that operate between the countries- Air India, Vistara, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic.
The aviation ministry rejected that India-London fares had climbed up to Rs 4 lakh, as tweeted by a senior IAS officer on Saturday. “The airfare on the Delhi-London starts from 1.03-1.21 lakhs for Indian carriers and 1.28-1.47 lakhs for UK carriers,” the ministry tweeted. “The passengers have re-booked on available flights, which created a surge in bookings on India-UK flights. Seats of the economy class generally are sold from Rs 25,000 to Rs 45,000,” Air India said.

“Hence the fares have increased so much. Our average fares remain normal without any upward revision,” Air India added. Air India will start 13 weekly flights to London from August 16 from Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Amritsar and Kochi. The report gathered by the DGCA also said that “at present, only limited flights are available on this sector as scheduled international operations are suspended till August 31, 2021.”
