West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday launched an expanded version of the state’s basic income support scheme for female heads of household, called “Lakshmir Bhandar” (Lakshmi’s treasury), which will cover 500,000 households from now and only Click the button below for the Big Business Summit to be held here.
Under the scheme launched last year, the state government provides 1,000 rupees per month to female heads of SC and ST households and 500 rupees per month to women who fall under the general category. With the expansion, the program will now cover 15.5 million households.
Banerjee chose to launch an expanded version of the popular scheme at the Bengal Global Business Summit, with several critical tycoons including Adani Group President Gautam Adani, ITC President Sanjiv Puri, Tata Steel’s TV Narendran, RPG Group’s Sanjeev Goenka, Bandhan, and The CEO attended the summit. The state’s Governor, Jagdeep Dhankhar, earlier launched the summit, saying the state has enormous growth potential. Dhankhar said West Bengal “is a land of opportunity” and needed to replicate its early success stories.
The states of Bengal and Mumbai were the most industrialised states of India at the time of independence.
“It is necessary to combat capital flight,” the governor said.
