On Thursday, the UK imposed sanctions on three Iranian military figures and a defence manufacturer for supplying Russia with drones to attack civilian and infrastructure targets in Ukraine.
The UK Foreign Office said in a statement that senior Iranian military officers Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, Seyed Hojjatollah Qureishi and Saeed Aghajani would be subject to the asset freeze and travel ban.
It added that the three individuals were “personally responsible” for supplying the drones used in the Ukrainian strike.
“Iran’s support for Putin’s brutal and illegal war against Ukraine is regrettable,” UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverley said. “This demonstrates Iran’s disruptive role in global security.”
Russia has launched dozens of kamikaze drones into Ukraine, hitting energy infrastructure in the capital Kyiv and killing five people. Ukraine says they are Iranian-made Shahed-136 attack drones.

On Tuesday, Tehran denied supplying Moscow with drones, and the Kremlin denied that its forces had used Iranian drones to attack Ukraine. Washington has called Iran’s denials a lie. Britain will impose an asset freeze on Shahed Aviation Industries, the maker of Iran’s Shahed drones, the Foreign Office said.
